
Sikelia Parfums, the Sicilian high perfumery brand created by Salvo Scarpaci

The Sikelia brand-which means Sicily in Greek-wants to tell the stories and legends of Sicily through its perfumes
Sikelia was born in 2021 from an idea of Salvo Scarpaci, a Sicilian designer and owner of the brand who is so in love with his homeland that he has united perfume, design and the history of a region coveted around the world in one object
"Designing and then making this project was a long work of research, of study in the world of fragrances, in the world of Sicilian myths and legends and materials. I gave a precise name to the emotions I want to arouse with our fragrances:
I MOTI DELL'ANIMA, understood as the awakening of consciences toward a lost culture. The emotions are different according to the fragrance one chooses: "we tell of passions for the sea, love for one's land but also the story of the Moorheads, Enceladus' envy and anger and Zeus' revenge".

The formulation of the perfumes and candles, the materials used come from a careful selection of Sicilian artists and artisans, mostly handmade and make each Sikelia object unique.
"Man has always been searching for the supernatural and the mysterious world of the divine to justify his earthly existence and to direct his behavior. Thus, for centuries, fairy tales, the tales of the ancient world have seduced, enraptured and educated a humanity increasingly in search of certainty," adds Salvo Scarpaci.
It seems almost a paradox that precisely today in a hyper-technological world, where a satellite is able to map the earth, we feel the need for legends and symbols that are found precisely in Sikelia's production.
Handcrafted details adorn caps such as the Pigne representing fertility and the Teste di Moro, ceramic masterpieces from Caltagirone, recognized worldwide as an icon of style and mythology. The cases are also inspired by ceramics, celebrating the art of Sicilian majolica in a modern key.
"In Sikelia we are not interested in choosing the most fashionable essences of the moment, we never start from its composition but from what we want to tell. As a fundamental prerequisite to our work, we have not given ourselves time limits, nor any restrictions as to the quality of raw materials. Creativity, passion, history are the values that inspire our work," continues Salvo Scarpaci
"With Atma for example, I wanted to create a perfume that tells the story of Etna's breath, and reproducing the smell of ash and burning was very complex. Even more complex was to propose this smell as a person fragrance telling the baleful wrath of Enceladus! When I happen to introduce it, I notice from the look on people's faces that they were not indifferent. Atma is a bold perfume, strong and full of personality, it is a perfume that first wants to tell, then to please. Atma is artistic perfumery."
The Sikelia Collection includes 6 Eau de Parfum: in addition to Atma, NIKOS, TRISKELÈ, MORUS, KALSA and MEDUSA, for each fragrance a fascinating story to tell.
Future Projects? "We will continue to talk about the land, myths and stories of Sicily. We are working right now on new stories, then on new fragrances that we will present at the next Esxence 2025."
